Keith Haring

Keith Haring was born in 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He developed his love for drawing at a young age. After graduating high school, Haring enrolled at the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh but dropped out a year later. Haring moved to New York in 1978 where he found an alternative art community. He made friends with artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and began to find his lane as an artist. Haring was massively popular in the 1980s, participating in numerous group and solo exhibitions in the U.S. and overseas. After battling with AIDS, Haring died in 1990. Since his death, Haring’s work has been looked at as a time marker; one of the clearest callbacks to 1980s New York one can make. His work has been used in successful collaborations with brands like BAPE, Lacoste and Uniqlo.
