Bape

A Bathing Ape, or BAPE, is a Japanese streetwear brand founded by Tomaki Nagao, aka NIGO, in 1993. Established in Tokyo, Japan, BAPE became a pioneer in global streetwear, instantly recognizable for its SK8THING designed motifs such as Baby Milo, Ape Head and duck camo prints. NIGO started the brand as part of the store NOWHERE, which he ran in Tokyo with UNDERCOVER's Jun Takahashi. Since then, BAPE has gone to the forefront of streetwear, partially thanks to crossovers with American artists like Kanye West and Pharrell Williams wearing BAPE hoodies in the early 2000s. While NIGO stepped down from BAPE in 2009, subsequently starting his new brand, Human Made, the brand has continued his legacy through iconic designs and high-profile collaborations with brands like Stüssy, Minions, Adidas and others.
