One of the 20th century's most revered artists, Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960. A troubled child, Basquiat dropped out of high school and left home at the age of 17. While living on the streets, Basquiat started to do graffiti with artists Al Diaz and Shannon Dawson. After spending the late-’70s tagging buildings and trains around New York City, Basquiat emerged as an expressionist painter in 1980. His career took off, and after aligning himself with pop art icon Andy Warhol, Basquiat became arguably the biggest painter of the 1980s. Basquiat tragically passed away in 1988. Since then, his work has been featured on apparel sold by Reebok, Supreme and Uniqlo.
