The fabric is spun using naturally Yeddo Hawthorn Trees and mud dyed cotton and linen threads.

Mud dyeing is a time-honoured dyeing technique native to Japan's Amami Oshima islands.

The unique, iron rich mud of Amami Oshima results in the beautiful deep black brown shade reflected in these jeans.

Made in Japan.

In Depth Details About The Dye:

The wood chips from locally grown Yeddo Hawthorn trees are boiled. The remaining dye bath rests for a week to prepare for a deep brown dye.

The yarn is dyed first in this tannin-rich dye bath.

This prepared yarn is then dipped in a mud pit. The chemical reaction between tannin from the Yeddo Hawthorn tree and iron from mud turns the yarn color to the “color of the earth”.

Mordanting hanks of yarn in mud. The color changes to an earthy black.

This process is repeated by hand for about 30 times to achieve the color of Century Denim.
