Description:

Number (N)ine’s Spring/Summer 2004 collection “Dream Baby Dream” references the song by the same name by the elctro-punk band Suicide. The collection prominently featured slim tailoring and music inspired looks, with the skull graphics being perhaps the most iconic of the season.

History:

Takahiro Miyashita garnered an interest for American culture and music at young age, causing him to take many trips to the United States. Although these trips may have been just for pleasure at the time, they could now be considered research for his following career in fashion design. After interning with Keizo Shimizu at Nepenthes, Miyashita eventually started his brand: Number (N)ine. Number (N)ine got it’s name from The Beetles song “Revolultion 9”, and was directly inspired by Miyashita’s love for American films like the works of Francis Ford Coppola, and music like Nirvana and The Beetles. Along with Jun Takahashi of Undercover, his focus was to design clothing for the youth that shared his passion for film, music and rebellion. As the company began to grow, Miyashita eventually felt as though he was losing control of the brand, causing him to leave after his A/W’09 “A Closed Feeling” collection and to sell the brand off to the Kooks Company. Miyashita eventually went on to start his next brand “TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist.” where as the name implies, he designs all the clothing completely on his own.
