At first glance, it appears serene, but a closer look reveals a narrative of profound suffering woven into the denim.

The chaotic stonewashing, where blue, black, and grey coexist simultaneously, leaves a striking impression.

Tatsuro Horikawa, the designer of Julius, once described black as madness and grey as pain.

This piece captures the agony of transitioning toward black (madness). Grey is the color that visualizes the psychological torment and human suffering born from the violent collision of light and darkness—just before reaching absolute black.

This conceptual use of color manifests directly in the jacket’s structure and washing.

It features a high stand collar, multi-layered paneling that contours the body, and long, slim sleeves. The pattern tapers toward the waist, creating a remarkably sharp silhouette for a denim garment.

Most notably, the washing varies across the multiple panels and intersects with the seams. As you move, this creates a three-dimensional surface where the gradients of blue, grey, and black continuously shift.

With no flashy embellishments, this jacket completes the signature dark aesthetic of Julius solely through color, paneling, and silhouette.

It is a piece of denim that refuses to erase the light entirely, instead preserving the very process of light and shadow colliding.
