80’s Issey Miyake design studio Hai sporting gear

A rare lambskin leather jacket from the early 1980s Issey Miyake HAI line. Unlike the more commonly seen HAI label, this piece features an early neck label that was only used for a limited period. It is a difficult archive piece to come across, even on the Japanese market, Grailed, or eBay.

Made from soft and lightweight lambskin leather, the jacket has a naturally fluid silhouette. Padded shoulders create the structured volume characteristic of 1980s Issey Miyake, while pleated detailing on the front and back gives the garment a three-dimensional shape that changes with movement. Rather than a simple leather blouson, the design strongly reflects Issey Miyake’s emphasis on structure and sculptural form.

The overall silhouette is a relaxed, balloon-shaped blouson with generous armholes.
