Sruli Recht
Sruli Recht is an Australian-Icelandic fashion designer. Based in Reykjavik, Iceland, Recht is known for blending innovative and sometimes controversial techniques with Indigenous practices to produce garments, footwear, objects and accessories. Born in Jerusalem in 1979, Recht moved to Australia at a young age where he studied fashion design at RMIT in Melbourne. After moving to London in 2005 to intern at Alexander McQueen, Recht moved to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik, where he founded his multifaceted brand and store, Vopnabúrið. Recht's designs are often monochromatic black, white and gray, made with natural materials such as wool, but also more controversial materials such as dolphin skin, whale skin and furs. In 2019, Recht worked with fellow Australian brand Aesop to design uniforms for the luxury cosmetics brand.
