Kris Van Assche

Born in 1976, Kris Van Assche is a Belgian fashion designer best known for his work at Dior Homme and Berluti. After graduating with a degree in womenswear design from Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Van Assche started his career working under legendary French designer Hedi Slimane. Van Assche, whose name is often abbreviated to simply KVA, worked alongside Slimane to create Dior’s then-new men’s division titled Dior Homme. With Slimane, Van Assche ushered in a new era of menswear known for sleek tailoring, slim silhouettes and overt rock references. After Slimane stepped down, Van Assche was offered the creative director role. From 2007 to 2018, Dior Homme by Kris Van Assche became known for its streamlined and minimalist look. Highly wearable Dior Homme knitwear and denim from that era transcends seasons. In addition to his work at Dior, Van Assche launched his eponymous label KRISVANASSCHE in 2004. The debut collection expertly brought together expert tailoring with and sportswear. Popular Kris Van Assche hi-top sneakers and boots are differentiated by their prominent shoelaces. Differing from his work at Dior Homme, KRISVANASSCHE clothing offered looser almost baggy silhouettes. Ever expanding his archive, from 2018 to 2021, Van Assche sat as creative director of LVMH-operated French luxury leather house Berluti.
