Luxury sportswear label Iceberg was founded in 1974. With Iceberg, designers Giuliana Marchini and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac introduced their distinctively Italian take on modern sportswear. The brand’s irreverent designs combining contemporary street culture with the unique experience of the Italian Riviera created an instant cult following. Iceberg collections make constant reference to the world of pop culture. A well known Iceberg motif is the brand’s take on the classic Mickey Mouse silhouette. Other iconic cartoon characters such as the cast of The Peanuts and Snoopy often make appearances on Iceberg outerwear. In the 1980s, Iceberg played a major role in the youth culture scene of Northern Italy. Iceberg designs found a following in the UK rave scene with musicians and ravers alike sporting Iceberg fashions. Iceberg’s influence continued to spread, making its way across the Atlantic to the burgeoning world of hip hop. Most notably, Iceberg is referenced in the lyrics of music icon and mogul Jay Z. Iceberg, along with other Italian labels such as Versace, Stone Island and Moschino, helped define the inventive street style mosaic we recognize today.
