Helly Hansen Men's Tailoring
In 1877, Captain Helly Hansen was desperate for clothing that could better withstand the harsh Norwegian weather. Along with his wife, Maren Margarethe, he began soaking coarse linen with linseed oil, creating water resistant clothing as well as the brand, Helly Hansen. The following year, the couple showed their waterproof clothing at the World Expo in Paris where they were awarded a Diploma of Excellence for their work. After Helly Hansen himself passed away in 1914, his son Juell Hansen took over the company, leading it through various technological advances in the 20th century. In the 1990s, Helly Hansen became trendy alongside other technical outdoor brands like The North Face, particularly for its oversized jackets. The brand also has maintained a significant fan base in the DMV area of the U.S. As ’90s trends come back in style, Helly Hansen gear has become increasingly sought after for the first time in years.
