The North Face

The North Face is an American outdoor gear brand founded in 1966 as a retail store in San Francisco by Doug and Susie Tompkins. The then-married couple were outdoor enthusiasts, and two years after the opening of their store, they decided to produce gear for hikers and backpackers. The North Face quickly became one of the leading brands in its field, known for its high-performance outdoor clothing, equipment, and footwear. In the 1990s, The North Face gained a. lot of traction within the hip-hop community, specifically in New York City. The North Face's Nuptse Jacket became a winter coat staple, thanks to its high quality 700 fill down that secured warmth and protection. Since then, The North Face puffer jackets have gone through many iterations, including some through streetwear and fashion crossovers with brands like Gucci, Supreme and Online Ceramics. While TNF's mainline is as solid as ever, the brand has also had several region-specific sublabels, including the black label, Goldwin Korea's white label and the Japan-only Nanamica-designed purple label.
