Coca-Cola was invented in 1886 by Dr. John Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The beverage sales were slow and steady in the beginning, with Pemberton selling nine drinks a day for a year out of a pharmacy in downtown Atlanta. In 1892, under the ownership of Asa Griggs Candler, The Coca-Cola company was established and for over 100 years, Coke, as it's commonly known, has been the most popular soft drink in the world. Due to its massive popularity and ubiquity, Coca-Cola has been a sort of benchmark for other brands to work with. Recently, Coca-Cola has done collaborations with BAPE, Converse and Kith.
