Birkenstock

Since 1774, Johann Adam Birkenstock has been listed as "subject and cobbler" in the church archives of Langen-Bergheim, Germany, handing over his crafts from generation to generation. His great-great-grandson Konrad Birkenstock developed the first contoured insole and footbed in 1896, and in the twentieth century, Birkenstock became one of the most popular sandal brands thanks to its podiatric qualities. The still partially family-owned Birkenstock brand we know now follows those same traditions but combines comfort and support with contemporary fashion and materials. The Birkenstock Boston is arguably the most popular clog around, while the Arizona sandal competes among the most-seen sandals in modern-day street fashion. Birkenstock has become a highly regarded fashion collaborator since the 2010s, with joint collections made by Stüssy, Rick Owens, Dior and others.
