Comme des Garcons × Junya Watanabe

Junya Watanabe became Rei Kawakubo's protege at Comme des Garçons in the late 1980s, initially working as a patternmaker before becoming a design director for the CDG label. The semi-autonomous Junya Watanabe x Comme des Garçons label launched in 1992 and initially focused on womenswear, applying a more utilitarian approach to designs inspired by Watanabe's hero, Issey Miyake.

After the launch of Junya Watanabe MAN in 2001, Watanabe has brought his ethos of reimagining classics to the men's front, collaborating with brands like New Balance, Levi's, Carhartt and Palace over the years. Building for more than three decades, the Comme des Garçons x Junya Watanabe partnership has become one of the most influential brands in modern-day fashion, creating an a signature aesthetic that both fits the CDG umbrella and simultaneously is completely Watanabe’s own.
