Undercover 2007SS “PURPLE” Tailored Jacket Archive Piece
Tailored jacket from Undercover’s 2007 Spring/Summer “PURPLE” era.
During this period, Jun Takahashi briefly stepped away from the aggressive punk and destruction-focused aesthetics commonly associated with early Undercover, instead presenting a season centered around elegance, refined silhouettes, and subtle beauty. Yet beneath the surface, the collection still carried the strange tension and surreal uneasiness that defined Undercover’s identity.
This piece is based on a classic two-button tailored blazer silhouette, but incorporates a number of quietly experimental details throughout — including silk piping accents, subtly lustrous sleeves with reversed shell/lining panel construction, and hidden stitched drawings concealed inside the garment and across the back panel.
From the exterior, the jacket appears restrained and formal. But once opened, the imperfect stitched linework hidden within reveals Jun Takahashi’s signature surreal and abstract sensibility. The contrast between elegance and discomfort perfectly reflects one of Undercover’s recurring themes: beauty infused with anxiety.
By this era, Undercover had evolved beyond simply being an Ura-Harajuku streetwear label. Takahashi was increasingly using fashion to express dreamlike uneasiness, youth, and emotional fragility — themes that would continue to define many of his later collections.
Constructed from a 97% wool / 3% polyurethane blend with silk detailing and full cupro lining. Released under the Undercoverism menswear line, featuring the sharp tailoring and slim proportions characteristic of mid-2000s Undercover.
A rare 2000s Undercoverism archive piece that is increasingly difficult to find today.
The alternate lining-construction version seen on this piece appears to be one of the only examples currently available both domestically and internationally.
