History:
"Apollo 13 launched on April 11, 1970, crewed by Commander Jim Lovell, Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert, and Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise. What was meant to be NASA's third crewed Moon landing became one of history's most dramatic survival stories when, approximately 56 hours into the flight, an oxygen tank in the service module ruptured, crippling the spacecraft and forcing the crew to abandon the command module and take refuge in the lunar module Aquarius, using it as a lifeboat for the long journey back to Earth. Through extraordinary ingenuity from the crew and Mission Control in Houston improvising CO₂ scrubbers, navigating by star sightings, and managing dwindling power reserves, all three astronauts safely splashed down on April 17, 1970. NASA famously called it a "successful failure." The shirt's mission patch features the three horses of Apollo's sun chariot with the motto "Ex Luna, Scientia" or "From the Moon, Knowledge." The slogan "Failure Is Not an Option" was popularized by Flight Director Gene Kranz, and later became the title of his memoir."
