Museum-worthy piece, amazing blazer made of a canvas cotton fabric. The latest presents the iconic "Cigarette Shoulder" feature, one of Margiela's most emblematic design language elements that has been introduced by the house during their first runway in 1988. You can see some outerwear pieces, on every collection up until the early 90's, featuring these shoulder.

This anatomical-like design, also typical of early Martin's work, consists here in multiple darts revealing the cut of the piece on the outside, with 2 darts on each sleeve, and one on each side of the bust. We also find a large shawl tuxedo lapels, a one button closure system, 2 front double welt pockets, 4 seams defining the structure of the body on the front, as well as, large shoulder back gussets completed with again one dart on each side, a small back vent and a defined back with again, 2 curved seams. Typical 5-buttons cuffs. Rounded sleeves. Inside mainline blank tag. Fully lined. Slightly wrinkled effect.

This piece has notably been reissued during the retrospective moment of the house in 1994. This one is the original version from Martin's 4th collection. It encapsulates perfectly the important designer's interest towards shoulders, an innovative design approach that was key during the beginning of his career up to his finale runway show. It also emphasizes well how the brand was deconstructing tailoring norms by mixing and changing various shapes of different eras all together.
