Hedi Slimane is one of a handful of the most an influential photographers and fashion designers of our times.
From 1998 to 2000 he was creative director at Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Homme.
From 2000 to 2007, he created a revolution in menswear as the Creative Director at Dior Homme.
From 2012 to 2016 he returned as Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent to relaunch the brand as "Saint Laurent". He is currently the new Creative Director at Celine Paris.

In a conversation with the then Interview editor Ingrid Sischy, the French designer Hedi Slimane (born 1968) described his beginnings as a photographer: "I started taking photos before I even started in fashion. I did not start out with clothes until I was 16, but I had AIT's first camera when I was eleven years old. I've always taken pictures, almost like some people take notes or write down their thoughts. As Hedi Slimane reveals: Anthology of a Decade: Slimane's photographs, which traverse the music scene, the New York art scene, street fashion and haute couture, are as fresh as his groundbreaking work in fashion.
This anthology is divided into four separate books, divided into regions:

Locally characterized and each place a different emphasis on the various work by Slimane. For the francophile fashion freak, FR is where Hedi's Haute Couture work with Yves Saint Laurent and Dior takes place, as well as the documentation required for his historic take on Dior Homme in the fashion world

Based on photographs taken between 2000 and 2010, this volume chronicles Slimane's early years in the fashion industry before, during and after his tenure with Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior from 1999-2009. In this decade, Slimane brought menswear to the market with an androgynous rock craze that influenced couture worldwide. This selection of 175 color photographs reveals Slimane's inspiration for this look and shows that it is dedicated to both youth culture and the historical background of photography. These images also confirm in their composition that the essential contribution of the designer to contemporary haute couture was his continuous line and silhouette refinement. Anthology of a Decade is a revelation both as a hitherto little-known instance of Slimane's many talents as well as an explanation for his work in fashion. "Undoubtedly, it will be remembered as a golden age in indie music," Slimane said at the time with thisi publication "I want to show how music, photography and fashion of this time were interconnected and still are connected."
