Hello, welcome to our shop,
Here is available for purchase a Raf Simons PC&L New Order Peter Saville Handpainted Fishtail Parka
Amazing fishtail parka made of a soft cotton twill fabric. One of his most iconic pieces ever made in his entire career, the latest encapsulates perfectly all the major components of early Raf's work: youth, music and subcultures.
The outerwear piece features a few legendary graphics from British new-wave Manchester culture, with hand painted images done on the parka by various English artists. We find notably; the album cover of the important New Order's "Power, Corruption & Lies" 1983 album, screenprinted on a large squared canvas cotton patche sewn on the back, as well as, one of the covers of their single entitled "Touched By The Hand Of God" released in 1987, the Factory Records label "F" logo on the right sleeve and the logo of New Order's 1981 first album named "Movement" on the front side of the parka. All these culturally significant artworks were designed back then by the English artistic director Peter Saville. Peter later collaborated for the occasion with Raf on his A/W 2003 "Closer" collection where he gave him the rights to use these graphics.
Form-fitting hood. 2-way front closure system with a zip and snap buttons. 2 front patch pockets and 2 front welt pockets. Drawstrings at the hood, waist and hem of the coat. One additional welt pocket on the inside. Straight fit. As it gets harder and harder to find, this one comes with its original liner.
This parka is worn on one of the 4 opening looks of the show, in a mod-inspired fit that was basically one of the main source of inspiration for this 1980's-influenced collection, and is nowadays considered as the most iconic iterations out of the 4 different models created for this collection (Raf Simons reissued it for his "Redux" collection in 2021). After more than 2 decades, its strong and important impact goes way beyond the runway. This parka has firstly been featured on the cover photography of the Autumn 2003 lookbook, seen in many different editorials as shown in this listing, worn by big celebrities, qualified by many big medias as part of the "greatest" menswear garments ever made, and last but not least, presented a few times in various museums, such as in 2004 in Manchester (the city where it all started) for Peter Saville's first exhibition named "The Peter Saville Show" or more recently, in 2017, still at Manchester, for the "True Faith" exhibition held at the Manchester Art Gallery. A true museum piece.
The latest shows perfectly how strong and impactful the work of Raf is, with this crucial link made between fashion and music, resulting in one of the most legendary and influential garments ever made in menswear history and popular culture with his MA-1 bombers or oversized hoodies for example. An important, rare and cult piece of contemporary fashion history whose global value will only increase through the years.
