Seller Description
A deep blue vintage Japanese suit with a quiet, elegant presence.
At first glance it reads as a calm navy, but under light a subtle bluish depth begins to rise — almost like deep indigo. Indoors it feels more restrained and shadowed; in natural light it opens slightly, revealing a clearer blue tone. A suit with stillness, but never flatness.
The fabric tag reads TOSHI TEX “SPECIAL 100.”
The cloth feels tightly woven, medium to slightly substantial in weight, with a slightly dry hand and a smooth, graceful drape. It keeps a composed silhouette while moving softly with the body — the kind of fabric that reflects careful Japanese tailoring from the period.
The composition tag is no longer present, so the exact fiber content is unknown. From the touch, density, and drape, however, it strongly suggests a high-quality wool suiting fabric. It feels structured without being stiff, and resistant to heavy wrinkling. Even the buttons and finishing carry the sense of deliberate workmanship.
This suit works naturally for business, ceremonies, dinners, and any setting with a more composed atmosphere. Best suited to spring and autumn, and also wearable into winter with layering.
Mid–late 20th century Japanese tailoring (1960s–1980s), from the family archive of a Kobe-based tailor. Exact year unknown.
Tailored under a lineage connected to a Kobe-based Japanese atelier once supported by the seller’s family — a quiet legacy woven into every seam.
Tailored under a lineage connected to a Kobe-based Japanese atelier — once operated by the seller’s great-grandfather, and worn for decades by her grandfather, a renowned Japanese scientist who first identified dextrin, a compound now used in dental care worldwide.
This piece carries not just tailoring heritage, but the legacy of a family dedicated to invisible excellence — in science, in craftsmanship, and in the quiet dignity of how one chooses to live.

Condition
Professionally cleaned.
Overall, this suit remains in good vintage condition.
There are minor signs of age and wear, including light surface rubbing, faint creasing, and general use consistent with age, but no major damage that would interfere with wear.
There is name embroidery inside. If requested, I can remove it before shipping. Please note this may require a few extra days of handling time, and very small needle marks may remain due to the original construction.
Each piece is carefully inspected and wrapped while the scent of Japanese incense lingers in the atelier — a quiet ritual of preservation and care.
Orders are shipped in weekly batches from Japan.
Not for someone else.
But for the quiet strength within.
