The HOLY GRAIL of 20th C. Sunglass Design

This frame was made in Italia in 1966..and was a Patent Pend. model. If not an actual prototype....the design of which which never went into full scale production....it was made in extremely small quantities..as in over 30 years of collecting rare and vintage sunglasses..I have only come across this model one time (I bought it).

I have had this rare specimen in my personal collection over 25 years.

One temple is stamped Patent Pend. Italy

even 2 years after this frame was made in 1966...Lanvin, Cardin, Dior, Laroche ...were the forerunners to licensing their name for what we know today as 'Designer Sunglasses'

In 30 plus years of collecting old and sometimes rare sunglasses....I have only come across this ultra rare MOD SPACE AGE FUTURAMA ITALIA OCCHIALI DA SOLE model once....I am now offering it on after having it in my personal collection for some 25 plus years.

In 2008..when presenting a vintage sunglass collection to PRADA Design Team in Milano..this item ultra rare design specimen was offered by myself...PRADA wanted to buy it....but did not want to 'pay' a fair price for it...so I kept it.

Price has since gone up. The scarcity factor comes into play here.

This rare specimen is long out of circulation...and to find another pair of this model in this fine condition..or any condition at all... would be nearly impossible.

As mentioned...in 30 plus odd years of collecting old and sometimes rare sunglasses..I have only come across this MOD SPACE AGE FUTURAMA ITALIA OCCHIALI DA SOLE stamped model once. Specimen on offer is Ultra Rare.

Christian Dior Paris made a lame, very pedestrian looking copy of this near exact design roughly 15 years ago.
