Helmut Lang is a cult figure and despite his departure from fashion in 2005, his heritage and influence continue to endure today. Everything he did carried his clear fingerprint - from his jeans to his perfumes. He was thoroughly in love with detail and Viennese - he was born there in 1956. The fashion autodidact Helmut Lang founded a tailor-made fashion studio in Vienna in 1977 and opened a boutique there in 1979 at the age of 23. After performing once on the Parisian catwalk, he successfully branched out to Paris in 1986 and founded the label "Helmut Lang".
He returned to Vienna until he finally moved to New York in 1997.
At that time, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, minimalist fashion was at its peak. His clothes were made with very sharp lines and meticulous cuts, creating simple but extremely elegant silhouettes of high quality and often high tech fabrics. His work was compared to Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto because of his sometimes rigorous, intellectual designs.
Lang is known for his minimalist, deconstructive and often austere designs. His fashion house became famous in the 1990s for its sleek yet sophisticated design, its slim suits in black or white, its denim collection and the use of high-tech fabrics.
In 1999, Lang entered into a partnership with the Prada Group, which in 2004 led to the acquisition of the Helmut Lang brand by Prada. In 2005, Lang retired from the label. This was a big loss many of his fans still feel today.
In 2006 Prada sold it to Link Theory of Japan, where the brand still exists today, but without the creative hand of the great man.
HELMUT LANG ARCHIVE MENS BLAZER JACKET SS2004
This is a fantastic summer blazer, an archive piece from Helmut Lang's Spring Summer 2004 collection - his last summer collection at his label. It comes single-breasted with two buttons, with a single vent on the back.
It also unlined, so that the technical cotton and Lycra blended fabric can cool you down. The most amazing thing about this Blazer is that it has the standard lower flap pockets and chest pocket on the outside and even more pockets on the inside - 3 inner breast pockets and an inside bottom ticket pocket!
This blazer is beautiful in its simplicity and, due to its lightweight construction, is perfect for hot summer days and evenings.
