This is high-end collector's item. Meticulously cared for for almost 100 years.
MINT - LIKE NEW - DEADSTOCK.
This garment appears to be unworn.
The heavy wool is crisp and thick with NO moth holes, thinning, or pilling. The original silk braided belt is included and is in perfect condition with full tassels. The silk braided belt matches the beautiful silk trim on the rest of the piece.
PROVENANCE:
Up for sale is an exquisite piece of Canadian sartorial history: a vintage mid-century dressing gown commissioned by the legendary T. Eaton Co. Limited.
Expertly Made in England from premium, heavy-weight grey wool (likely a high-grade flannel or melton), this robe represents the pinnacle of post-war loungewear luxury.
The T. Eaton Company was once the largest department store chain in Canada, founded in 1869 by Timothy Eaton. Eaton’s supported unionized domestic manufacturing, and the brand was a cultural institution that shaped Canadian fashion for generations. A true piece of Canada’s fashion history.
The passementerie rope work and tassels indicate this was a premium line from their catalog, or perhaps even bespoke for my great-grandfather.
The piece likely dates to the 1920s–1930s based on the silhouette and construction and family history.
***SELLER NOTE***
Finally selling some of my family's historic items. I love them and have somehow become the family's historian - but they need new homes. Basically perfect condition. Stored in a trunk in a clean, dry , pest-free environment for almost 100 years — no holes, no staining, no moth damage.
This was my great grandfathers coat. He was the owner and proprietor of The Patricia Transportation Company, acquired by James Richardson & Sons, Limited in 1937. It was a crucial freighting firm in Northern Canada, known for pioneering, year-round transport methods before major roads existed. They used trucks, summer barges, and winter cat-trains (bulldozers with sleighs) to service mines, notably relocating the entire town of Sherridon, MB, to Lynn Lake.
Design: Classic shawl collar with contrasting red and black braided silk cord piping along the edges, cuffs, and pockets.
The Belt: Includes the original, heavy silk-braided waist tie with oversized tassels (perfect condition) —a detail almost always lost over time.
MEASUREMENTS:
Length (collar to bottom hem) 47 INCHES
Width (Pit to Pit). 24 INCHES
Fit: Relaxed, elegant "smoking jacket" silhouette with two deep front patch pockets.
