Union-produced (UFCW)
//Description//
- Authentic late-1990s / early-2000s Carhartt C02 Detroit-style jacket, featuring button-front construction, firm duck canvas, blanket lining, corduroy collar, and original Carhartt hardware. This is a USA-made, union-produced example from the period just prior to Carhartt’s broader transition to overseas manufacturing.
- The jacket shows even, honest wear consistent with age, resulting in desirable patina. No holes, tears, or repairs. All buttons and snaps are present and functional. Blanket lining is fully intact. Structurally excellent throughout.
//Production Era//
Based on construction details and labeling, this jacket is best dated to a narrow window in the late 1990s to early 2000s (approximately 1999–2001). This assessment is supported by the combination of USA-made, union (UFCW) production tags, the C02 model designation, and button-front construction, which was phased out in favor of zipper-front designs shortly thereafter. Additionally, the care label format, leatherette chest patch style, and blanket lining pattern are all consistent with Carhartt production from this specific period, just prior to broader overseas manufacturing and design standardization in the early 2000s.
//Collector Note//
- Button-front C02 construction represents a minority of Detroit-style Carhartt jackets from this era. As production shifted toward zipper-front designs in the early 2000s, button-front examples became increasingly uncommon. Based on observed production runs and surviving examples, it is estimated that well under 25% of Detroit-style jackets from this period were produced with button-front construction.

//Provenance//
-This jacket comes from the personal wardrobe of Leonard “Len” Randall (1933–2021), an All-American football player at the University of Washington who went on to play professionally as a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers during the 1956 NFL season. After football, Randall served a distinguished 30-year career in law enforcement in King County, Washington, rising to Sergeant and Head of Homicide.
-Estate provenance and obituary context available to serious buyers upon request.
//Condition Notes//
- As shown in photos, the jacket exhibits a small number of cosmetic blemishes consistent with age and use, including:
- A visible scuff above the right chest pocket
- A very minor mark below the right chest pocket, subtle and difficult to notice
- Light discoloration along the lower back hem, visible upon close inspection
- A non-obvious mark on the inner right elbow, appearing consistent with a light grease stain; this was only noticed during detailed photography and may be removable by a future owner if desired
None of these affect the structure, wearability, or integrity of the jacket. No holes, tears, or repairs.
