Seller Description
Iconic pair of boots from Bata, a major US military footwear supplier. These boots were invented during the Korean War for military expeditions in cold weather. As such, they’re rated to be safe for temperatures as low as -20° Fahrenheit. The spacious toebox is designed to reduce pressure on the feet, and the valves on the side of the boots function as a vapor barrier for extreme cold, giving them their namesake.
Although officially called Extreme Cold Vapor Barrier Boots, they gained the nickname “Mickey Boots” due to the oversized appearance reminding people of Mickey Mouse’s feet. These are the predecessors to Bata’s “Bunny Boots”, or the Extreme Cold Vapor Barrier Boots type II. While Bunny Boots are still officially issued today, Mickey Boots are more difficult to come across. Although the date is a little difficult to read, it seems as though these boots in particular were manufactured in March 1988.
Famously, both Mickey Boots and Bunny Boots were used in the F/W 14 Raf Simons runway show, in addition to Mickey and Bunny inspired boots created in collaboration with Adidas. In 2017, Adidas made an Ozweego model based on the same boots.
Takahiro Miyashita also used these boots as inspiration for some of the boots seen in his A/W 19 collection under his “TheSoloist” label.
More recently, Alexander Digenova has incorporated Mickey boots into numerous looks in his F/W 23 collection.
Quite used but considering they are around 30+ years old they could be much worse especially since it has most of the text on it still! One of the heels has crumbled a bit (pictured) Please see all photos before purchase item sold AS IS
Sized as a 7R, which is a US men’s size 7 with regular width.
