Seller Description
'71 MOD YVES SAINT LAURENT x RENAULD U.S.A. SUNGLASSES ULTRA RARE
Specimen on offer is an ultra rare MODEL YVES SAINT LAURENT x RENAULD U.S.A. Aluminum Wrap Sunglasses frame c. 1971.
the model was referred to as 'THE SEVENTY-ONE'..year it was made.
YVES SAINT LAURENT PARIS / RENAULD U.S.A. collaboration
kindly note embossed / hard pressed / engraved stampings on both inner temples....right temple is embossed (stamped) RENAULD U.S.A. and left temple is stamped YVES SAINT LAURENT
ultra rare, highly collectible investment grade specimen made in The U.S.A. c. 1971
at this time...Lanvin, Cardin, Dior, Laroche ...were the forerunners to licensing their name for what we know today as 'Designer Sunglasses'
In 30 plus years of collecting old and sometimes rare sunglasses....I have only come across this ultra rare YVES SAINT LAURENT model once....I am now offering it on after having it in my personal collection for some 25 plus years.
This rare specimen is long out of circulation...and to find another pair of this model in this fine condition..or any condition at all... would be nearly impossible.
Very Few of this model with the YVES SAINT LAURENT stamp were ever made. Interested parties should be made aware there are reproduction RENAULD sunglasses currently being made.....retailing for 2500$ USD on average on the RENAULD UK website. These reproduction models are newly made..and NOT in any way affiliated with the actual vintage YVES SAINT LAURENT X RENAULD U.S.A. (c. 1971) rare specimen on offer. The reproduction models are NOT stamped YVES SAINT LAURENT..and are merely newly made copies.
The Hollywood Celebrity BRAD PITT can be seen in recent photos included in this listing wearing a NEWLY MADE REPRODUCTION of the ultra rare 'SEVENTY-ONE' model. If you see a RENAULD frame with white paint (ink) on the inner temples...and the letters were not actually hard stamped / embossed / engraved into the Aluminum...frame is a modern copy.
As mentioned...in 30 plus odd years of collecting old and sometimes rare sunglasses..I have only come across this YVES SAINT LAURENT stamped model once. Specimen on offer is Ultra Rare..and with Celebrities like BRAD PITT recently spotted wearing the copy / reproduction model (same design..but newly made)....it goes to show that the 'SEVENTY -ONE" design is ultra cool....so much that a UK company has decided to copy this design...and sell the reproduction copies (newly made) ....for 2500$ USD retail on their website..
The vintage YSL specimen on offer is guaranteed to be an AUTHENTIC pair of c.1971 YVES SAINT LAURENT x RENAULD U.S.A. model 'SEVENTY-ONE' sunglasses. The frames on offer are actual vintage..over 50 plus years old...the frames which can be seen worn by BRAD PITT..Hollywood celebrity....in recent publicity photos....are the copies / reproductions..and NOT AUTHENTIC YVES SAINT LAURENT x RENAULD U.S.A. c. 1971 sunglasses.
I have quite a large archive of old and sometimes rare sunglasses models...to date..I have NOT seen one pair of YVES SAINT LAURENT sunglasses pre dating this c. 1971 ultra rare pair on offer. YSL pretty much got into the sunglasses game in the late 1970's / early 1980's...the specimen on offer is an ultra rare pair of very, very early YSL frames c. 1971 made in extremely low production run.
