Maison Mihara Yasuhiro – 2006AW “Mummy Dress Shoes”

Ultra-rare early Mihara archive piece from Fall–Winter 2006, often referred to as the “Mummy” shoes for their wrapped, bandage-like textile construction.

This pair represents Mihara’s early experimental era before the commercial sneaker boom — a period when he was still working as a full shoemaker, using traditional last-making techniques and conceptual textile wrapping.

The design fuses a classic dress-shoe silhouette with irregular hand-wrapped layers, creating a sculptural, museum-grade object. It's essentially a hybrid between footwear and installation art — highly sought after by archive collectors.

Historical Note:
Mihara Yasuhiro’s 06AW collection famously featured a tap-dance performance shown only as projected silhouettes, with the soundtrack being the raw sound of the dancer’s taps.

It was a sharp contrast to his later, more playful runway concepts (e.g., popcorn machines causing small fire scares, Mihara appearing disguised as a police officer, etc.).

Interestingly, this exact idea — silhouettes + tap-dance rhythm — was later reproduced almost directly in Off-White’s 20AW collection under Virgil Abloh, a detail often discussed among archive collectors.

This pair comes from that same 06AW collection, embodying the experimental and conceptual era that influenced many designers in the 2010s and 2020s.
