This wide-sleeve kimono is made by patching together tenugui from around the mid-Showa period.
The tenugui used are from a café called "Kissa Fujiya," and feature illustrations of “One Fuji, Two Hawks, Three Eggplants,” a motif inspired by the café’s name.

These three motifs are considered auspicious in Japan; traditionally, seeing them in one’s first dream of the year is said to bring good fortune. They carry meanings of business prosperity and abundance. The design also reflects the tasteful aesthetic befitting the name “Fujiya.”

The kimono is tailored with wide sleeves, suggesting it may originally have been worn as a juban (under-kimono).
Unlike narrow sleeves, the generous width allows for ease of movement while giving a soft and flowing impression.
The cotton has a gentle texture characteristic of old fabrics, and the natural aging of the cloth imparts a calm and nostalgic atmosphere.

The patchwork reflects the ingenuity and playful spirit of past everyday life. This is not merely recycled fabric—it carries a sense of “compositional beauty.”

Today, such patchwork using vintage cloth is highly valued overseas. It can be repurposed into new clothing or bags, or displayed as interior fabric art, offering a wide range of possibilities.
This piece also conveys the warmth of human hands that crafted it.

Yellowing, stains, and some missing stitches are present.

The stitching under the armpits has loosened, causing small holes.

The item has been washed twice by the seller. It may still carry a slight vintage smell. After purchase, any further wear or washing may cause additional damage or return of odor, which is not eligible for refund or exchange. Please order only if you understand these conditions.
