Rag & Bone “Standard Issue” Trainer – Boiled Wool Prototype (2014, One-of-One)
Men’s Size: US 11 / EU 44
Made in Japan
In 2014, Rag & Bone of New York launched a company-owned men’s footwear division to produce a proprietary collection of “Standard Issue” utilitarian shoes and boots — designed for year-round wear, climate permitting. These were crafted with attention to heritage design, everyday function, and long-term wearability.
Offered now from a private collection is a one-of-one prototype from that inaugural season — never released to market, carefully stored, and now available for the discerning collector.
This is a remodeled training shoe originally designed in the 1960s — still manufactured today without compromise to its design, quality, or comfort. It has a well-earned reputation for strength, support, and durability.
What makes this pair special:
Upper: Crafted from skived (thinned) boiled wool — a denser, warmer textile offering a soft hand feel and flexible wear. Unlike canvas, boiled wool conforms more naturally to the foot, making it an ideal choice for Pre-Fall and Fall transitions. This upper balances breathability with insulation, and offers a subtle texture that adds depth to the silhouette.
Sole: Produced using a direct injection method — a single-step process that fuses the rubber sole directly to the upper. This technique eliminates glue lines and prevents future delamination, resulting in a cleaner, longer-lasting construction.
Lining: Lightweight, moisture-wicking cotton ensures comfort throughout the day.
Laces: Classic cotton, athletic-inspired.
Developed as a fabric trial, the boiled wool version proved too costly to produce at scale despite strong showroom reception. Had it gone to market, the retail would have been approximately $325.
Pairs effortlessly with denim, vintage chinos, or fatigues. Offers distinct value through rarity, design integrity, and cold-weather function.
