UNKNOWN – 1930s–1940s Style Double-Face Attached Hood Parka

This hoodie is modeled after the rare “after-attached hood” sweatshirts worn in the U.S. from the pre-war to wartime era.

While sweatshirts and hoodies are now standard garments worldwide, their roots can be traced back to wool sweaters worn by student athletes. This piece reflects a transitional period when cotton began replacing wool in sportswear, giving rise to what we now recognize as modern athletic apparel.

A standout feature of this hoodie is the after-attached hood — the hood was sewn separately onto a ribbed-neck crew sweatshirt. This labor-intensive design, popular through the 1930s and 1940s, disappeared in the 1950s with the rise of integrated hood constructions, which were cheaper and easier to produce.

The fabric is thick and sturdy, constructed from heavyweight double-face cotton for both the hood and body. V-shaped ribbed gussets are set into the front and back neckline, enhancing flexibility, absorbing sweat, and helping prevent stretching and fatigue at the neck over time.

The arms and rib seams are reinforced with extremely durable double-needle overlock stitching, and the hem features two separate hand-warmer pockets.
The silhouette is clean and structured, offering a stylish and easy-to-wear fit.
