Seller Description
King of Slub, an extra-heavyweight 23oz unsanforized denim with an extremely slubby uneven texture. Released by Naked & Famous in 2022, it uses their custom-developed irregular sized "King Slub" yarn in order to produce a more pronounced three dimensional texture than possible with a standard slub. During dyeing, the thickness and irregular shape of the yarn causes it to absorb indigo at varying rates, and when worn, allows for high contrast fades as the gradient of indigo becomes visible across the texture.
I purchased a pair of these in early 2022, and because of some (pandemic related) shipping issues my package was lost in the mail and replaced. A few weeks later the original package arrived and I ended up with a second identical pair of these jeans.
Because of this I'm able to show pictures both of the new unworn pair (photos 1-6), as well as the pair I've been wearing since (photos 7-12) This is especially helpful because as unsanforized denim, also known as shrink-to-fit, they must be soaked prior to the first wear, and will shrink approximately 1 tag size. So I'm including measurements for the pair I'm selling as well as the measurements they will have after soaking (as measured on my own pair). Note: When listing this product's specifications (e.g. Waist Size: 31") I give the post-soak measurements, since that will dictate how these will fit after soaking when they are ready to wear.
Measurements:
Waist: 33 in (31 in post-soak)
Front Rise: 10.75 in (10.25 in post-soak)
Upper Thigh: 12.25 in (12 in post-soak)
Knee: 8.5 in (8 in post-soak)
Leg Opening: 7.5 in (7.25 in post-soak)
Inseam: 35.5 in (33.5 in post-soak)
There's an awesome guide on Tate & Yoko's blog that talks more about unsanforized denim, as well as a soaking guide from Blue Owl which I found really comprehensive. These explain how when you first purchase this "Shrink to Fit" denim you will wash/soak it right away, and it will shrink to about a standard Naked & Famous 30 tag size. Especially with a super heavyweight denim like this soaking is very helpful to soften it up and get it ready for wear.

I won't go on too much about how much I love this denim, but as a fan of both heavyweight denim and super slubby and rough textures, I think this is a really unique pair. Mine are starting to soften up more and more and I'm actually seeing spots where the indigo is fading differently across the three dimensional ridges and grooves (see the last picture). They're really comfy and tough, and they're my go-to cold weather jeans as well as great work and outdoor jeans that can take a serious beating. 23oz really is no joke. These are in the class of jeans that can stand up straight without you in them.
Overall, a great intro to heavyweights, or high-contrast textured denim, and an awesome addition to anyone who has experience and wants a single pair that has both the toughness of heavyweights and the crazy texture of slubs. They're pretty badass.
