Seller Description
I purchased a supposed Vintage Patagonia item Listing ID: 65680147 from a seller here on Grailed.com, Bundlebranded. The listing clearly stated 'Men's Medium', yet I upon receiving the item, I found it had a left side zipper, which indicates the item is a Women’s jacket style, as Men’s Patagonia jackets in the USA all used right side zippers. This is especially true for any true Vintage jacket.
Also, the tag at the inner collar states 'M' for medium, and below states 'Content (Over); yet the back side of the tag is blank; there is no sign of a remnant additional tag that might have been removed by an original owner, the treading is intact, indicating no such additional tag was present. Also, the jacket had absolutely no article ID tag, washing instructions tag, material content tag, etc. along the inside seams. either side, and at the neck inside the collar.
The left side woman’s' style zippers are used in China, and along with the missing garment ID, washing and content tags [required by US law] indicates that this jacket is most likely Chinese counterfeit. The listing stated ‘Made in USA’ but the evidence indicates otherwise.
I contacted the Grailed.com customer service regarding these discrepancies as per their Grailed Purchase Protection. I provided the evidence above with detailed photos as requested.
I received the following reply:
“Our moderation team has already rechecked this listing and we are able to confirm that this item is legit and authentic, also the item that you received is as the seller described in the original listing. The seller is not required to accept a return or issue a refund in this case.
Reviewing Grailed.com stated policy, they state the following:
What do our digital moderators look for when reviewing a listing?
They examine:
• An item’s design characteristics, craftsmanship and detailing. [Women’s left side zipper on Men’s jacket]
• Authenticity indicators such as wash tags, logo size, shape and embroidery, and accuracy of item name and description. [missing garment ID, wash and material content tags]
They have said it themselves; as I pointed out:
• The garment in question had absolutely no article ID tag, washing instructions tag, material content tag, etc. along the inside seams. either side, and at the neck inside the collar. [NOTE Grailed requested photos of wash and size tags as evidence]
• There is no evidence of such tags being cut out or the treading being disturbed in removing the tags
• The supposedly Men’s jacket has a woman’s' left side pull zipper, which is never used on Patagonia USA manufactured or sold men’s jackets.
Also, the Patagonia tags do not have the UV thread which glows orange/red under UV light to prove authentic Patagonia manufacture [see photo]
The seller [Bundlebranded] has a great number of vintage Patagonia jackets for sale on Grailed; as these are in high demand by American buyers, the potential for fraudulent items is high. How he has such a great number of over 2 decades or older jackets in such good condition on hand is suspect.
The sellers’ description stated Paypal was available, but this payment option was not available in his payment page. Grailed staff informed me that they no longer offer the Paypal payment option; this removes the security of using Paypal, which left me no recourse.
