These archival jeans are from Jun Takahashi’s seminal Spring/Summer 2001 collection titled ‘Interzone’, heavily influenced by William S. Burroughs. Constructed from washed black denim, the piece features inverted ‘GROUPIE’ block lettering across the front crotch and thighs, side zippered utility cargo pockets, and distinct rear patches including a woven jacquard Karl Marx portrait and an ‘UNDER COVER one and only’ woven tag. Takahashi’s early-2000s collections laid the groundwork for Japanese punk streetwear, blending subversive socio-political iconography with intricate tailoring. Highly coveted by archive fashion collectors worldwide, original SS01 denim pieces survive in minimal numbers and represent a pivotal moment in Japanese fashion history.
