if you’re here, you probably already know about ruffo, the italian tannery that provided leathers to prada, gianni versace, jil sander, and dolce & gabbana, eventually making their own design incubation line called “ruffo research”, active from 1998 to 2004, where designers would be assigned 2 seasons to creatively direct, most notably hosting the likes of raf simons, veronique branquinho, a.f. vandevorst, sophia kokosalaki (r.i.p.), and haider ackermann.

this is a dark, chocolatey brown mainline pre-research era ruffo leather peacoat in beautiful condition dated roughly from the late 80s to early 90s. it features the nicest leather i’ve ever felt in my life, warm quilted lining, and buttery smooth riri zippers. no size or care tags on the entire garment, and the condition it was maintained in, lead me to believe that this was a custom-made and tailored piece.

a literal piece of history as the tannery that was responsible for the leathers in many people’s archives has been out of business since 2006. i love seeing this thing hang in the closet to death, but i’ve literally never worn it out, only ever tried it on.
