Fact: Società Sportiva Ambrosiana is a historical name forced on FC Internazionale Milano by the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini from 1928 to 1945, because the original name "Internazionale" was considered too communist and not nationalistic enough. The new name was taken from Sant'Ambrogio (Saint Ambrose), the patron saint of Milan, and marked the era when the club wore white jerseys with the red cross of the Milanese coat of arms and the Fasci Littori fascist logo. Although the club compromised to "Ambrosiana-Inter" in 1931 due to pressure from fans who longed for their original identity, the club officially abandoned the name and returned to the legendary Inter Milan name soon after the end of World War II.
