Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 2001, TALKING ABOUT THE ABSTRACTION is a Japanese designer label known for its experimental approach to vintage-inspired fashion.

Designer: Naoki Ichihara (市原直紀)

Born in Osaka in 1973, Naoki Ichihara established TATA in 2001 after gaining experience in vintage clothing retail and the apparel industry. The brand explores the relationship between vintage culture, traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

TATA is particularly recognised for its innovative transfer-printing technique, reproducing the appearance, textures and fading of vintage denim and other garments onto different fabrics, including sweatshirts. This creates a striking contrast between the visual appearance of aged vintage clothing and the comfort of contemporary materials.

The label has also collaborated with renowned Japanese designer Mihara Yasuhiro and Yohji Yamamoto, further connecting it to Japan’s experimental designer fashion scene.

Rather than simply reproducing vintage garments, TATA transforms vintage aesthetics into a distinctive contemporary design language.
