Nike and Stussy have been at the top of their respective games for many years now. The Stussy brand shot to fame in the late 80s thanks to founder Shawn Stussy's creative flair. Hailing from California, the brand initially sold surfboards with Stussy scribbled on the board in a marker pen. This logo would later find its way onto apparel and was sold from Shawn Stussy's car to surfers. Although originally for surfers, the brand was synonymously cool amongst skateboarders and hip-hop aficionados alike.
Stussy was a true trailblazer within the fashion industry, even having Supreme Founder James Jebbia on the payroll as store manager back in the early ’90s. Despite Shawn Stussy stepping away from the brand he helped found in '96, the brand lives on and has seen a significant resurgence in popularity in recent years.
Nike, on the other hand, needs no real introduction. A true powerhouse within the sportswear space, Nike has reached unbelievable heights within the fashion industry in recent years due in part to its compelling collaborations. The dynamic duo has collaborated on 18 different occasions over the last two decades, with sneakers and apparel, both releasing. With over 20 years since the first Stussy x Nike collab (and coming off Stussy’s blockbuster 40th anniversary in 2020) we thought it was time to deep dive into the iconic collaboration.
