Rei Kawakubo Men's Accessories
Born in 1942, Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer best known as the mastermind behind Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market. Kawakubo started CDG in 1969 in Tokyo and opened her first boutique in 1975, selling women's clothing. After gaining initial success in the 1980s with her deconstructed, frayed designs, primarily in black, dark grey, or white, Kawakubo started expanding her imperium internationally, making her one of the most influential designers of the 21st century. Her influence and approach are so influential that the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York dedicated a complete exhibition to Kawakubo and her designs. Through CDG's many sub-labels, including her work with Junya Watanabe, Kawakubo has created a vast CDG universe that spans men's, women's, kids, and accessories collections. Her distinctive sculptural approach is also seen in the Dover Street Market department stores, which she runs with her husband, Adrian Joffe.
