Oakley is an American sportswear brand founded in 1975 by Jim Jannard in Foothill Ranch, California. The brand is known for its eyewear, sports equipment and apparel, which are specifically designed for and with athletes of various sports. Oakley, named after Jannard's dog, started in Jannard's garage by developing motorcycle grips made from Unobtainium. After achieving early success making protective wear and gear for the motocross world, Oakley expanded into goggles, initially laying the groundwork for the high-quality Oakley glasses. Besides their use for performance in sports like athletics, cycling and football, Oakley sunglasses have also crossed over to fashion through exclusive collaborations with brands like Vetements, Brain Dead, A-COLD-WALL* and Stüssy. Using a similar futuristic aesthetic, Oakley also makes clothing, footwear and accessories.
