Very few bands can trace its origins back to a particular day, but for Los Angeles’ Metallica, that date was October 28, 1981. Metallica, composed of James Hetfield, Ron McGovney, Dave Mustaine and Lars Ulrich, was a bit of an overnight success compared to some of its contemporaries who stewed in the underground for a while longer. The bands first demo No Life ‘Til Leather spread like wildfire across the west coast Metal scene and by 1983, Metallica released its first album Kill ‘Em All to critical acclaim. From then on, the band went on a nearly unparalleled run of classic albums, became one of the best selling acts in the history of American music and in 2009, Metallica was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
