Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs, the eponymous fashion brand of designer Marc Jacobs, originally launched in 1986. After spending the bulk of his life learning about clothing, Jacobs enrolled in the Parsons School of Design in 1981. After working for the clothing manufacturer Reuben Thomas during 1984 and 1985, Jacobs started his own brand in 1986 and won the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent the following year. In 1988, Jacobs joined Perry Ellis and while his Spring/Summer 1993 “Grunge” collection would later be recognized as a game-changer, at the time it was a commercial failure that resulted in his dismissal from the company. In 1993, Jacobs relaunched his eponymous brand and in 1994, he debuted a line of womenswear. In 1997, Jacobs joined Louis Vuitton as creative director in exchange for financial support of the Marc Jacobs brand. Over the years, Jacobs’ T-shirts, bags and jackets, in addition to his bold personality, brought him notoriety and fame. Today, he’s recognized as one of America’s greatest living fashion designers.
