Leon Leonwood Bean invented the Maine Hunting Shoe in 1911 after returning from a hunting trip with cold and wet feet. His first batch of boots were terrible, with 90 out of 100 pairs being returned because of sole separation, but Bean reworked the boots until the problem was solved. Following this, the brand has been on a century-long run of success. While the brand is best known for its duck boots, L.L.
