Goyard
Maison Goyard is a French trunk and leather goods maker established in 1792 as Maison Martin in Paris. Considered one of the earliest brands making luxury goods, Maison Martin was run by Pierre François Martin, who made boxes, trunks, and packing. After Martin gave the company to the young Pauline Moutat, who married his employee Louis-Henri Morel, the atelier on rue Saint-Honoré rebranded as Maison Morel. After François Goyard took over the company, Maison Morel became Maison Goyard in 1853. Learning the craft from Morel and Martin, Goyard started as an apprentice and eventually became a master craftsman. Goyard became the high-luxury brand we know now when Goyard's son, Edmund Goyard, took over the business in 1885. Drawing on his father's work, Edmund catered to an elite clientele, introduced the chevron Goyard monogram and Goyardine canvas and participated in world exhibitions to reach an international clientele. Goyard became known for its opulent luxury and quality, reflected in its luggage collections and accessories such as Goyard wallets, handkerchiefs, ties and belts.
