Futura

Leonard Hilton McGurr, better known as Futura 2000 or simply Futura, was born in New York in 1955. Part of the early waves of street art and graffiti, Futura is widely considered a pioneer within the graffiti world, thanks to his early work with the Soul Artists collective and his signature abstract painting work. In the 1980s, Futura became friends with British punk group The Clash, performing on tour and designing their album art. In recent years, Futura has inched closer toward fashion. He established his own label, Futura Laboratories, in 1997 as a design studio and lifestyle brand operating from Brooklyn, NY, with a flagship store in Fukuoka, Japan. Futura has also worked with countless other brands and fashion labels, including Comme Des Garçons, BAPE, Supreme, Uniqlo and Nike, with whom he made the Nike Air Max 90 Futura as well as the Nike Dunk High FLOM, among others.
