In 1910, Ermenegildo Zegna took over his father's wool looms in Trivero, Italy. The water in the region is particularly soft, making it ideal for washing wool. The superior wool Zegna produced quickly led to major company growth. He began producing larger quantities of high quality wool, becoming a worldwide success by the 1940s. After Ermenegildo died in 1966, his sons Aldo and Angelo took over the business. In 1979, the Zegna produced its first leather goods collection and the following year, the brand opened its first retail store, located in Paris. Today, Zegna is still recognized as one of the premiere wool producers in the world. Thanks to its diffusion Z Zegna line, coupled with designers like Alessandro Sartori, the brand has maintained a respectable reputation both as a classical Italian men’s brand and a host to forward-thinking tailoring.
