In 1984, Donna Karan broke onto the fashion scene with her first collection ”Seven Easy Pieces”. As the name suggests, the collection focused on the seven items Karan thought every woman should have. Although the collection was a success and beloved by Karan’s peers, Karan faced a new challenge in 1989, when she’d reached her limit with her teenage daughter Gabby raiding her closet. Karan, sick of seeing her daughter in her finest wears, created DKNY, a more affordable line influenced by her eponymous brand with plenty of unisex styles. DKNY was an instant hit and its sweatshirts and T-shirts are still beloved today.
