Diesel was founded by Renzo Rosso in 1978. While the world was experiencing an oil crisis at the time, diesel was considered an alternative fuel. Rosso, inspired by this, named his brand after the fuel because he thought of his company as an “alternative jeans brand” in contrast to the more popular brands of the era. The brand took off immediately, rising steadily throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Diesel is known for its variety of denim washes, but also offers a variety of T-shirts and hoodies as well.
