Band Of Outsiders

Band of Outsiders was a Los Angeles-based menswear label founded in 2004. Founder and designer Scott Sternberg was born in Dayton, Ohio, a small midwestern town home to legendary skate brands Alien Workshop and Quasi Skateboards. After graduating from Washington University in Saint Louis, Sternberg departed for Los Angeles to work in Hollywood and later found the label. Band of Outsiders was known for its preppy sportswear influenced aesthetics and frequent inclusion of skinny ties. Slim-fitting Band of Outsiders blazers, knitwear and [denim[(https://www.grailed.com/designers/band-of-outsiders/denim) were made in the highest quality materials by US-based artisans. The label’s preppy retro-inspired apparel offerings were beloved by its celebrity clientele and were stocked in major department stores, such as Barneys New York. The line’s name comes from a Jean-Luc Godard film title and references the outsider status that comes with creating a fashion line in LA, rather than embarking on the endeavor in a major fashion hub such as New York and Paris.

In 2007, Band of Outsiders launched its first womenswear collection cheekily titled “Boy.” And in 2008, Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg won the CFDA Award for emerging menswear designer of the year. Rapper and mogul Kanye West was an ardent supporter of Band of Outsiders, often sitting front row for its collection showings and donning the label’s blazers during his “808s & Heartbreak” era. In 2015, the Band of Outsiders label folded. Founder Scott Sternberg has since gone on to design and launch the everyday basics label Everybody.World.
