Alaia Women's Jackets

Azzedine Alaïa was born in Tunis in 1936 as a son of wheat farmers. Inspired by his glamour-obsessed twin sister Hafida, Alaïa pursued a career in fashion, starting at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts, where he excelled despite lying about his age. Alaïa moved to Paris in 1957 and finessed himself into the fashion world, becoming an assistant for Christian Dior, Guy Laroche and Thierry Mugler, with whom Alaïa would stay friends until his passing in 2017. Alaïa left Mugler to start his eponymous label in 1980, quickly gaining a reputation for his elegant dresses. Alaïa sold his company to Prada Group in 2000, eventually repurchasing it in 2007. Nowadays, the Alaïa ballet flats and shoes have regained popularity, while the form-fitting sculpted Alaïa dress remains evergreen in women's luxury fashion.
